Untarnished Netherlands beyond Amsterdam !!

Part 1Giethoorn (Dutch Venice)

I should say Netherlands is beyond a beauty imaginable. It’s so organized structured and the nature is untouched.

Usually every country we visit we’ll plan a day or two in the capital city, but this time the city life wasn’t our choice.

It was four days trip and yet again a tent vacation. This time around we opted for a place near the beach instead of a lake.

The first place we visited is called Giethoorn. It is also called as the Venice of Netherlands.

Giethoorn is mostly a car free village and all the places there are made accessible by boat.

It is also famous for it’s centuries-old thatched-roof houses.

This place is also said to have more than 150 wooden bridges.

Every small detail makes the place look it’s best.

You can enjoy sightseeing by renting a boat and using it’s waterways. And this was what we opted for. You can rent a boat of your choice depending on how many members and what kind you would like to travel in. You can opt from bigger boats which accommodates more than 10 members to smaller kayak which can hold two members or you can go solo.

We went on a whisper boat(electric boat) which was of a medium size and had a capacity to hold 6 members. With this boat you’ll be taught how to sail it and also you’ll be provided with a map and a specific route which should be taken during the course of sailing and all this in 2 hours time.

If you take the waterway then you are sure to have the best of time. You will be taken through beautiful houses, gardens and a lake which is a part of National park. We also caught hold of few wild raspberrys on the way. Sailing the boat on our own was a experience by itself. Meanwhile the place was a Scenic beauty.

Apart from using the waterway you can use the roads by renting a bicycle or you can walk around with a map to explore the area. Unfortunately we had no time to explore the roads.

I would say when in Netherlands Giethoorn is a must visit. We throughly enjoyed spending every minute there. It was pleasant, refreshing and extremely beautiful.

Shino’s tips on this trip:

*From my point of view opting for an one hour guided tour is not price worthy, instead you can opt for self sailing.

*Try and do the boat and bicycle booking in advance especially if you are visiting duthe peak hours.

*If possible plan your visit during the spring. This place looks it’s best during the spring season.

SHINO’S LIMERICK:

These waterways
Are truly an ace
Sides so verdant
And site so radiant.
