Estonia the little beauty!!🛳

Estonia is a small country with it’s own set of heritage beauty.

The country is small and looks like an high end heritage cottage.. with less spread out in a vast space.. And this small country during the World War II was stuck between the two back then super powers Nazi Germany and Russia and had gone through it’s fair share of troubles.. which even now reflects in most parts of the country.

As soon as we landed in Tallinn we availed Tallinn card which we were able to use for the local trams for few entry ticket and also few discounts in few restaurants. This was extremely helpful. After we availed it..we took a tram to the Tallinn mall for our lunch and for a mini tour.. Also Tallinn mall holds the city’s sky wheel.. so we took a tour in it as well.

We also travelled back and forth to Estonia and finland through cruise just to get a feel of how cruising would be.

We took a walk in tour to cover most of Tallinn , and also went to few places on our own to just feel the space. Also it is to be noted that walk in tours are free of cost but has to be pre-booked or registered.

Frist place we visited was The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is Tallinn’s largest and grandest orthodox cupola cathedral.

Then we visited Nunnatorn ja linnamüüri platvorm. It’s an unique medival defense wall with towers.

Walking through a wall was weirdly satisfactory!!

The next and the last for the day we visited Tallinn TV tower . This TV tower also had an observation desk at the top. We went there by evening and the view was absolutely stunning, 314 meters to the could level view with city and old town on one side and the harbour and sea on the other side was a pure bliss.

The next day we visited St. Nicholas’ Church and Museum . And this indeed is a piece of art.

Then we went on to visit Estonian Maritime Museum. It’s Maritime history in a historic tower.

And by evening we went on to visit a harbour near by. Even here there is a museum which we unfortunately couldn’t visit due to the timings.

It was drizzling and freezing with temperature in minus there and that is what we enjoyed the most.

And on the last day we visited Estonian Open Air Museum which is located quite far from the city. And also it’s a huge area to visit and will take almost half your day. This Open Air Museum will give us an idea of the livelihood of people in Estonian from 13th century. They have houses and utensils collected which was used by people from the 13th century. This place is very unique and will give an actual picture of the old ways .

And on our last days we also visited Patkuli viewing platform. This is said to be the oldest viewing platform in Tallinn and is indeed the most beautiful. It gives a surreal view of the city. And also we roamed around the old town to get a glimpse of it’s ethnicity. The place is so full of heritage that even the restaurants looks historic. This gave us a very unique and diverse experience.

I also must make a mention here about a specific restaurant called The Olde Hansa. This restaurant dates back to the 13th century and is still functional. Be it the interiors or the costume and custom of people who work there all of it isn’t altered even a tiny bit except for chandelier lights where candles have been replaced with fancy lights for a safer environment.

And after this breathtaking view we had to pack our bags home . Tallinn for sure is a must visit.

Shino’s tips on this trip:

*Plan your trip short. For a city like Tallinn 2 or 3 days would suffice.

*Though it is located in Eastern Europe the country isn’t that cheap when compared to other Eastern European Countries. Witness your wallet losing some weight 😉

*Try not to miss out the medival dining experience at the Olde Hansa.

SHINO’S LIMERICK:

The country
Despite it’s rival
has untouched medival
Kudos to it’s survival
It is unmissable.
